As a first-time parent, I read every book, subscribed to all the motherhood magazines, and followed countless recommendations on what to buy for my baby. But nothing prepares you for that life-changing moment when you hold your newborn in your arms for the first time.
You immediately feel their fragility. You want to protect them from everything, especially the things you can’t see, like chemicals and harsh materials in everyday baby products.
Like many new parents, I wanted the best for my baby. I bought 100% cotton baby clothes, well-known nappies, and trusted mainstream brands. But by the time my son was just a few weeks old, his sensitive skin reacted to nearly everything. He cried constantly, and I had no idea why—until his skin flared up. Baby eczema had hit hard.
It was devastating to see him uncomfortable and unhappy.
I tried countless fragrance-free creams and over-the-counter products, but nothing truly helped. Then someone recommended switching to organic cotton baby clothing—and that changed everything.

His skin slowly improved. He cried less. He slept better. He became a calmer, happier baby.
✅ Safe Baby Shopping Checklist
Everything I Wish I Knew Before Buying Baby Essentials
Whether you're shopping for your newborn or making a gift list, here’s my tried-and-tested checklist to help you shop safely and consciously for your baby:
1 - Pick products that can be washed without losing softness and integrity, no special detergent needed.
Your baby’s skin is 20% thinner than yours. That makes it more prone to irritation from chemicals. Look for natural baby clothing made from organic cotton or bamboo blends. These are hypoallergenic, breathable, and incredibly soft, ideal for babies with eczema or skin sensitivities.
2 - Ensure tags and seams are soft or on the outside to prevent irritation

3 - Buy from brands with transparent sourcing and real parent reviews like Bebekish.
Bebekish products are tested by real parents through Bizzie Baby Awards and have been eligible for Gold and Bronze Awards for years.
4 - Look for minimal plastic-free packing.
At Bebekish we use recycleable boxes or recycled cotton bags that can be used to put in creams, nappies, lotions, dirty clothes, etc.. No WASTE!

5 - Make sure that you can easily return if something does not suit your baby.
Choose companies where you can return the products within a certain period of time. It is generally 14-30 days for return policies.
Babies don’t need a lot of things, but they do need safe, gentle, and breathable fabrics. From my experience, choosing organic and bamboo baby clothes was the most effective and natural way to protect my son's skin.
Shopping consciously also means you’re caring for the planet your baby will grow up in.
Every purchase is a choice to protect their health, your peace of mind, and the future.
